“Hey Mom, how are you feeling?”, he asked.
“I’m fine, I slept sound all night,” she replied.
“Tell me about it, you snore like a trooper!”, he laughed.
“I most certainly do not,” she smirked. Not wanting to make her anxious, he decided it best to talk about her condition later in the day. It was too early, and the last thing needed was for her to feel stressed.
“You go home son, and get some sleep, I’ll be fine here for a while. You must be exhausted,” she said.
“I am pretty tired and hungry, are you sure you will be okay for a few hours?”, he asked.
“I don’t want to see you back here until lunchtime at the earliest,” she replied.
“You drive a hard bargain,” Shane said, before planting a kiss on her cheek, “I’ll be back in a few hours, stay out of trouble.”
Shane exited the room, and began to walk down the corridor towards the main reception. He would have to get a cab home, and hoped there would be a few waiting outside the main hospital door as usual. On the long walk down the corridor, he became aware of the soreness inside him from last night’s antics in the car. It felt like a lifetime ago, although it had only been about ten hours previous. Approaching the main door, he could see a handful of cabs through the glass, he stepped outside and headed for the nearest. The daylight burned his eyes, while hunger pangs engulfed his stomach. After handing the driver a hefty tip, he made his way indoors. Once inside, he headed into the living room, delirious from sex, stress, and lack of sleep, he collapsed onto the sofa.
Waking up, Shane reached for his watch to check the time. Aw shit man, it can’t be that time already, he thought, as 4.09pm flashed across the digital display. Jumping up off the sofa, he could smell some body odour, it was then he realised he had not showered since the day before. Heading into the bathroom, he turned on the shower, and proceeded to take off his clothes. While taking off his shirt the whiff of a familiar smell was evident, holding the shirt close to his nose he breathed in deeply. Nathan’s masculine scent had infiltrated the fibres of the shirt, allowing Shane to once again immerse himself in Nathan’s essence, and for this he was so glad. Knowing that time was against him, he entered the shower to scrub the memory of the past twenty-four hours away.
Feeling fresh and recharged, it was time to head back to the hospital. He made a quick sandwich, and grabbed a protein shake so he could eat on the way. En route to the hospital, he tried his best to relax and enjoy the
